Hey guys..
It's Keiji from JJ.
We've got big plans for the near future and definately would like your help, both in supporting it and advertising it.
A fellow JJ member, Snakeman, decided that he really wants to push for the community to come together in JK2, rather than staying relatively distant and closed within one server. We all supported him and decided that this game is still worth making even better.
He came up with these ideas, which we plan to set up as soon as possible, so the more help and support it has the better:
1: An independently run chat network (Example being an IRC channel)
This would be a public channel that anyone that plays jk2 would be encouraged to join and hang out in. I can't force people to join or endorse a channel like this, but I think it wouldn't hurt to have something like this. This would be a hub where jk2 players can sit in, discuss anything, meet up, plan out stuff, challenge each other, etc. This hub will allow players to communicate to each other without having to deal with different messenger programs, and of course it'll be real time which has advantages over forums in setting up tournaments and clan matches.
The channel will also have a link to a site I'd be willing to host with a collection of server trackers for the more popular servers, so finding people that are currently playing is just a couple of clicks. Ontop of that, users in the room will be encouraged (via the rules.txt link) to wear a [JK2] at the end of their names if they are currently playing. IRC is very flexible and you can private conversations with others very easily if you need to discuss something more private.
Topics of discussion don't have to be restricted to just jk2, this is a social hub after all. Feel free to discuss anything (outside of drama) and feel free to plan stuff regarding other games. The channel will be most likely run by me and I'll have others be moderators, most likely higher ups from different clans, or individuals I feel responsible enough and plan to help out by giving me a bit of their time. Something like this has to be built up, via help from the players/clans, getting the word across, showing some support. I can't get this up alone.
2: An independently run server for the purpose of doing 1v1s, 2v2s, clan matches, ctf matches, tournaments, etc.
Combined with the IRC channel, this server can be set up to allow anyone to set up a match quickly and efficiently. Why is that, because the very same mods in the IRC channel will also have rcon to the server. To me a mod in the IRC channel, you'll have to be willing to help run the server as well. Depending on how many people will be mods (if I get support), there'll be a good chance a mod is online in the channel when you'll want to set up the server. This will allow matches, 1v1s, and the like to be more spontaneous, allowing people that are just hanging about to get together and have a 2v2 or something instead of just jumping about an FFA server doing nothing. This will also lead into number 3...
3: Monthly/Bimonthly/Seasonal Clan League
With the IRC Channel and server, it'll be easier to set up matches. Need to do a clan match like JJ vs ES but short on guys? Well if you're hanging in the IRC chat (hopefully), you can easily find your clanmates and let them know which server, when, etc. With it being easier to do the matches, I'd love to see some sort of clan vs clan match league. Clans will match other clans in an attempt to score points. The clan with the most points at the end of the season will be the winner of bragging rights till next season. All clans are encouraged to join, but have no obligation of accepting a challenge or deadline on matches. Basically if you don't accept, or challenge, you can't score no points, so go out there and get some games going. Points/matches will be monitored on a site of some sort, perhaps being tied into idea number 4, more on that... now.
4: (Optional) A blog like site covering events and news in jk2.
This one isn't something entirely needed, but could be useful. What if, instead of scouring every forum to see whats up with matches you could instead go to one site showing you results, upcoming matches, and league information all in one place. I think this will help again in allowing everyone to be on the same page in terms of whats up.
Feel free to comment back in this thread, on our forums (http://s3.zetaboards.com/jedijunkies/index/) or email me at swanson1991@hotmail.com if you would like to contribute.
Thanks.
